Science, technology, and community infrastructure in service of human liberation — not capital accumulation.
AiH Labs is the research and development division of Optimal Living Systems. We operate two interconnected laboratories: the AI Lab and the Open Science Research Lab — building the AI systems and scientific infrastructure needed for communities to govern themselves, support one another, and live well.
Our theoretical foundations draw from sociology, political philosophy, degrowth economics, and self-determination theory. We design systems that reflect those values: privacy-sovereign, consent-driven, community-owned, and optimized for human flourishing rather than engagement or profit.
Everything we produce is released under open licenses. Our code, data, models, and documentation are public goods.
Every person is the sovereign authority over their own data, decisions, and life. Our systems advise — they never coerce.
Research belongs to everyone. We publish all datasets, models, methodologies, and findings openly, prioritizing reproducibility.
We build tools for communities to help themselves and each other — not dependency on centralized platforms or institutions.
We are transparent about what our systems can and cannot do. AI is a tool. We refuse hype, exaggeration, and techno-solutionism.
The AI Lab develops and trains the language models, neural networks, and AI systems that power our projects. We run a production-grade local inference stack on community hardware, using open-source tooling: Kestra for orchestration, LanceDB for vector storage, BGE-M3 for embeddings, and Ollama/vLLM for inference.
Current focus: fine-tuning domain-expert models for sociology and research methodology, building the HBoK knowledge architecture, and developing the OVNN advisory scoring system.
The Open Science Research Lab produces the academic and scientific foundations for our AI systems. We maintain four domain research collections — sociology, psychology, environmentalism, and neuroscience — and publish all research under open science principles aligned with the Center for Open Science.
Current focus: building domain RAG collections in LanceDB, fine-tuning a research-methodology model, and developing the OLS Knowledge Architecture System for systematic knowledge extraction and graph construction.
Optimal Living Systems is a mutual aid nonprofit that facilitates and creates projects to help humanity. AiH Labs is our technical research and development arm — building the AI infrastructure needed to support our broader mission.
OLS operates under fiscal sponsorship of OWCSC (One World Community Support Center) and is organized around the principles of direct participatory democracy, mutual aid, and degrowth economics.
We imagine and build toward a post-capitalist world where intrinsic motivation replaces wage incentives, where governance is participatory and local, and where communities own the tools they depend on.
